HP has announced the worldwide commercial launch of the HP PageWide C500 press, which is set to advance packing print for the corrugated sector.

Described as game changing, the C500 provides digital post-print simplicity with offset print quality, achieving speeds of 75m per minute and provides post print flexibility with offset print quality. Users can benefit from consistent offset print quality for a wide range of corrugated applications on both coated and uncoated paper, along with post-print process simplicity and the versatility advantages of food-safe true water-based inks.
The C500 can produce a wide range of food applications using water based inks which meet stringent food standards Niv Ishay, HP PageWide C500 product manager said the new press provides digital flexibility and economics such as cost savings including printing plates and waste, reduce set up times, make ready factory waste.
With a corrugated market worth $3.5bn in 2017, which is set to grow to $5.5b by 2022, Ishay said: “A tidal wave is coming to corrugated, and we are ready.”
HP has signed five contracts pre-launch, and next month it will ship the first commercial unit to Europe, then the US. David Tomer, general manager, HP Scitex, said the industry been waiting for a post print solution for offset print. He said: “There is no question whether digital is the future of printing, it’s just a matter of when.”
